Indigenous Cultural performance

On Wednesday 17 June, students at HPPS are being invited to attend an in-school performance in the hall called Indigenous Cultural Awareness – Dion Drummond. This performance has been planned to supplement our K-6 COGs units and it is expected that students attend. The cost is $5 and money can be paid directly to your class teacher.

Congratulations

Congratulations to all the KHS students who received a Blast Off award this week. This award recognises students who have been making the right behaviour choices and have received 10 stars during the year so far. Students who won awards this week are Danniyal, Afia, Ahmed, Ahmed, Admad, Fatema, Layelle, Elham, Hajar and Rabita.

Keep up the good work as there are many other students who are now close to receiving the award! Good luck.

Families

As part of our COGs unit Me, we have been talking about our friends and families and what they mean to us. Today, we decided to write about our brothers and sisters and why we love them. Here is what Elham wrote:

My brother plays with me on the computer (Elham)

Parents blogging

Thanks to all the parents who came to visit our blogging session this Wednesday. We hope it was very informative. Please post your comments.

Library day

Please remember that Friday is our library day and students need to bring in their library books to exchange them for a new one. Please carry them in a protective bag (like a recyclable green bag from Coles). Don’t forget!

Buddy class

We are very pleased that 4GC have agreed to help us during some of our lessons. Several students will visit our class for a couple of hours each week to supervise students during reading and maths groups. We hope we can learn new things from them and that they might learn a few new leadership skills along the way! Fantastic! Thanks 4GC.

Jokes

As part of a writing session recently, we decided to write a joke book about funny things we see while we are walking along. Here are some of the jokes :)

While I was walking along the road…
“I saw a big giant elephant dancing” (Fatema)
“I saw a mermaid dancing on her tail” (Breana)
“I saw a purple apple singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” (Afia)
Ha ha ha…..!

Art Show

Here is a photo of our maks display at the art show.

Feelings Masks

It is Education Week this week and we have been making some great artwork for the school artshow. We extended our knowledge of feelings and colours by making some 3D papier mache masks.

To make the masks we stuck paper and paste in 3 layers around a balloon and let it dry. Once the paper was hard, we popped the balloon inside and cut the papier mache in half to make 2 masks. Then we added different facial expressions using play dough and coated the play dough in more paper and paste. Finally, we painted the masks using a single colour to represent our own feeling. The masks were brilliant and we had great fun making them.

Bedrooms

As part of our work last term, we talked and wrote about our bedrooms. Once we had created the models of our rooms (see below), we read the book Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. We created our own fantasy bedrooms and shared our thoughts with the class. Here is what one student wrote about her fantasy bedroom:

My bedroom is a fairy room. (Fatema)
